Indoor Fun

We finally mastered the 100 piece puzzle Uncle Travis got Claire 2 Christmases ago.

We measured it against Claire. Uncle Travis, next time you are putting this puzzle together with her. :)

Averi Kate loves sitting in her rocking chair with her babies or her Elmo. She also really loves kitchen towels, which I don't have a picture of right now. But she will play for a long time, wrapping her babies up in a kitchen towel, unwrapping them, laying the kitchen towel on her rocking chair and then sitting on it, etc.

Watch your hand, sister.

One of Claire's favorite activities these days is to play in a container full of rice. I'm serious, it's the little things, folks.

We bury different small objects in the rice and she will play for an hour, digging them out, playing with them, and putting them back in again.

Look Mom, I found a squinky.

Not to be outdone, Averi Kate played with a box full of dried beans today.

She likes to scoop and pour them, and transfer them to different containers.

Side note. Yes, AK is wearing a fleece jacket in August in south GA. She has an obsession with jackets right now and sometimes it's just not worth the struggle to explain why it is inappropriate to wear a jacket in 90 degree weather.

I am aware when we do these types of activities that there will be an inevitable mess when all is said and done. But it is worth the learning opportunity, and the moments of peace when little hands are occupied. However, Averi Kate really got the cleaning up part backwards, as she consistently dumped out whatever Claire and I tried to put back in the container, and reached down in the floor not to pick the beans up, but to fling them across the entire kitchen.

This is Averi Kate after I banned her from helping us clean up.

And this is Claire's brilliant idea to pick up the beans by putting them in between each of her toes and then wiggling her foot over the container. It was a very efficient way to pick up 2 million dried beans off the floor.

Oh, and hello. Today, August 2, 2013, at 17 months of age, Averi Kate decided for the first time that she does indeed like the passy.

 I love these kids!
